Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition
Organizing with Fairbanks & Interior Alaska communities toward just action on climate change
We’re shocked and frustrated with the recent abrupt dismissal of the entire FNSB Climate Action Committee, a month from completion of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. This common-sense plan, which has the potential to unlock millions in federal funding, is broadly popular with Borough residents, evidenced by the extensive public engagement since the start of this process.
We know what our community needs, and we’re not going to let these kinds of political games get in the way of that. In order to get this plan finished, we need to speak up vocally and show just how much we support this plan and that we are not going to accept this failure of leadership. We can’t give up or let weak leadership undermine the important progress our community needs to make.
We have two asks of you today:
Sign the Petition for the Climate Action Plan’s Adoption: we are gathering signatures to demonstrate our support for a robust plan and to show just how many people intend to make sure this plan is completed. Please sign this petition. It’s very easy, but it can make a huge impact, especially in a local issue like this.
Stay tuned for upcoming alerts from us to show up and testify in support of this plan our community has worked so hard on.
Local faith leaders, faith communities, and people of faith are joining together in support of the Borough Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. To learn more and to sign the letter, click below:
The FCAC Keep It iN The Ground (KING!) Working Group is asking Alaskans to join in demanding that our state legislators fundamentally reform Alaska’s oil and gas tax codes. We must stop subsidizing oil and gas companies and start to transition our labor force and electric grid towards renewable energy.

Nenana Action Alert: Donate and Sign the Letter
The State of Alaska is currently auctioning off subsistence lands for industrial agriculture under the inaccurate guise of “food security.” A road construction project has been under way to access the land that did not involve consultation with the Nenana Tribal Council. Public Comment for the road construction is open until Sept. 30. To make a public comment supporting Nenana residents’ demands, click below.

“Building Bridges and Shared Pathways to Alaska’s Prosperous Future”
Tune in for lively conversation and a fresh approach for respectful public dialogue to bridge polarized communities and bring Alaskans together across political divides. Shared values are some of the most powerful antidotes to political polarization & are Alaska’s best hope to rise above political gridlock. This “friendly debate” models dialogue across differences with the goal to identify areas of overlap in diverse visions for Alaska’s future.
The Alaska Just Transition Summit and the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, held consecutively and poignantly in the same room in June 2022, offered contrasting visions for Alaska’s future. This dynamic conversation explores the areas of convergence and divergence and paths forward where we are stronger together.

Racial Justice IS Climate Justice
As FCAC leadership, we’re committed to deepening our understanding of systemic racism and its connection to our larger movement work. We’ve been sharing articles and other anti-racist resources with each other and wanted to share with you all as we continue learning and unlearning together. Below are some of what we’ve been reading, listening to and watching. We encourage our members to continue a path towards anti-racism in this pivotal moment to do the work of educating yourselves and your communities with us. Please send us an e-mail and share what resources have been helpful for you so we can continue learning together to build a truly just transition.
